Guild Leader at 11
I was eleven years old and the guild master of a top-fifty guild in the world in Vanilla World of Warcraft. Forty adults on a headset most nights, doing exactly what I told them to do.
They were doctors. They were lawyers. They were grown men with mortgages and staff meetings, and at nine o'clock at night they logged in and waited for an eleven-year-old to tell them where to stand. Nobody knew how old I was for a long time. When it came out, most of them thought it was funny. A few were genuinely rattled, which I understood, because they had been taking instructions from a kid for months and getting results.
My parents did not know what to make of any of it. They saw a boy on a headset at midnight running something they could not see, and they worried about it the way anybody would. They also let it keep happening. That turned out to be the whole ballgame.
The other half was quieter. I had five RuneScape bots on a virtual server, farming gold and selling it for around $250 a week, and they did it while I sat in a classroom with my hands folded on a desk. Nobody taught me the concept. I just noticed the machine did not need me in the chair.
Take the game out of it and look at what an eleven-year-old had. I was leading adults who outranked me in every measurable way. I had built something that made money while I was somewhere else entirely. I had learned that authority comes from being right, not from being old. Grown men were taking orders from a kid, and the kid was already getting paid in his sleep.
