I'll build it myself

Workbench with chisels and planes laid out in order beside a closed laptop and a blank blueprint

In December 2025, I joined a call about turning PromptDNA into real software. During that call, I heard myself say I would build most of it myself. The statement was already out before any polished retelling.

The contrast was already sharp. I was the computer-science dropout. Now I was saying I would build most of the software attached to PromptDNA.

I did not hire the build out. I set up coding coaching instead. I chose coaching without handing the build to someone else.

The coach gave me one line. “It would rob you if I built it for you.” I left the line alone and chose coaching.

Computer-science dropout. Real software. Most of the build. Coding coaching. The old label and the new decision now had to occupy the same sentence.

This was a call about PromptDNA. I said I would build most of it. Most was the word I used: I would build the majority of the real software instead of hiring the build out.

The word was rob. I had already said I would build most of PromptDNA myself, and the coach answered with one sentence: “It would rob you if I built it for you.”

I chose coaching over outsourcing. Five words hold the operational decision. Coaching still acknowledged that I needed instruction, while keeping the act of building on my side of the arrangement.

The computer-science dropout label remained in the frame. Now it stood across from a decision to build most of the real software.

The call produced one sentence I could hear coming from myself: I would build most of it. The next action was equally concrete: set up coding coaching instead of handing the build away.

A software call. A dropout label. A declaration to build. A coaching arrangement. One sentence from my coach cut through every easier option.

I would build most of it myself. My coach’s answer still holds: “It would rob you if I built it for you.”
